From Our Partners in OIIT – Changes to Faculty Self-Service, Grading and Student Information

OIIT wanted to make you aware of changes that have recently impacted accessing the Faculty Self-Service pages for Grading, Student Information among other links through an old look and feel. As of April 24th that old interface has been disabled. Since 2019 Faculty Self-Service was upgraded to a new look and feel, with the old version left in place for those who preferred it. However, the vendor is not supporting the old version causing it to not be available. Training materials are available here to help with this transition.

Annoto: New Social Interaction Feature Available in Canvas

NSU has just rolled out a new tool that you can use in your Canvas courses called Annoto. Annoto has many great features that will engage your students while they are viewing videos. This tool transforms the video-watching experience from a passive one into an active one and can be used with any video you choose. It enables learners to contribute, share, and learn together, experience videos as an interactive group, and keep a personal journal of notes. It allows instructors to guide the video-watching experience with questions, formative assessments, and focused discussions, as well as the ability to answer questions related to the video.

Zoom News: Whiteboards New Features

Zoom has recently redesigned their virtual whiteboard experience to bring you an all-new Zoom Whiteboard. NSU users can now create whiteboards before, during, or after a meeting, save whiteboards for future use, and share whiteboards outside of a meeting with anyone in our organization. Zoom has also enhanced the whiteboard with new templates, new shapes for organizational charts and diagrams, and new tools. An expanded set of tools is available when creating or editing a whiteboard outside a meeting. Some of these expanded tools include the ability to upload an image, insert tables, and use sticky notes.

Zoom News: Gesture Recognition

Zoom News

A recent update in Zoom enables a new feature where a meeting participant can perform a gesture to the camera and it will be translated into the appropriate gesture symbol on the screen. This is a great tool for students and professors to use, allowing for a more intuitive way to react in a session. The new feature works with two gestures – the “raise hand” and the “thumbs-up.”
