OIIT wanted to make you aware of changes that have recently impacted accessing the Faculty Self-Service pages for Grading, Student Information among other links through an old look and feel. As of April 24th that old interface has been disabled. Since 2019 Faculty Self-Service was upgraded to a new look and feel, with the old version left in place for those who preferred it. However, the vendor is not supporting the old version causing it to not be available. Training materials are available here to help with this transition.

Workshop: All About SharkMedia

Videos are often the most highly engaging pieces of content in a course. Videos can be used to introduce new course content, reinforce concepts already learned, share demonstrations, simulations, and much more. You may know that NSU has a media server called SharkMedia which is our branded version of Kaltura. During this workshop, we will review the many capabilities of the SharkMedia platform. We will show you where you can find every function in the platform, from uploading videos, all the way to creating chapter markers and playlists for your students.

Save the Date! November 2nd and 3rd Teaching and Learning Conference

Mark your calendars for November 2-3, 2022, for the Learning and Educational Center’s Virtual Teaching and Learning Conference! This virtual conference is open to all NSU faculty, administrators, staff, and students who are interested in teaching and learning research and practice.  There is no cost to attend but registration is required. We will send out a notification later this month with a link to the registration form. In line with this year’s theme: Connect, Engage, and Inspire, we have a variety of presentations that focus on active learning and student engagement strategies, use of educational technologies, assessment, online teaching, and others. Join the MAKO Commons Virtual Community of Practice

Have you heard of the MAKO (Make All Knowledge Open) Commons yet? During the Winter 2021 term, the LEC piloted the MAKO Commons, a virtual community of practice (vCoP) designed to connect faculty across NSU.  Faculty, who includes anyone that teaches at NSU, can share ideas, information, and resources related to research and practice in teaching and learning. MAKO Commons is hosted in Canvas. Here, faculty communicate, collaborate, and interact, among other activities.

A course welcome video allows students to become familiar with you and your course before class starts. During this online workshop, Gregory Wright, an experienced multimedia producer, will show you around the video editing tool Adobe Premiere Rush and share some basic video editing principles.

Although we have resumed our classes in their regularly scheduled format (i.e., in-person, hybrid, and online), we continue to practice flexibility in our teaching due to the recent surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Register Now! NSU Libraries’ 7th Annual Power Publishing Day, Thursday, January 27 – FREE EVENT Do you want to share your scholarly research with the world? Come join us for a day of learning about academic publishing from the publishers, editors, and faculty. You will not want to miss this opportunity to meet editors and reps from publishing houses including Clarivate, Elsevier, Emerald, IEEE, IGI, SAGE, Taylor & Francis, and more. Learn about: getting your research published, including case studies navigating the peer review process publishing initiatives for Open Access strategies for finding the right publisher and more… Plus, network with your colleagues and other academics in our community. There is no cost to attend but registration is required and can be done through lib.nova.edu/ppd22. You can attend in person or online. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be served. This event is open to NSU faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the public. The event will be held at the Alvin Sherman Library at 3100 Ray Ferrero Jr. Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33314.
