UN SDG Learning Opportunity for Students: How Faculty Can Support This Initiative

This month, the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences (HCAS) is partnering with The Foundation of Environmental Stewardship (FES) to offer the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Launch on the NSU campus. Endorsed by all 193 of the UN’s Member States, the SDGs represent the international framework for cooperation on humanity’s most pressing challenges. The launch will establish a program to educate, empower, and mobilize youth to become activists for sustainable development in their community. Canvas Corner: Panda Pros – Instructure’s Free Back-to-School Coaching Sessions

Instructure Canvas, our Learning Management System, is offering free, one-on-one, online coaching sessions on any topic related to Canvas that you may want guidance on. The program, called Panda Pros, started last year and because of the great response and feedback, they have brought it back. The program is running right now until September 18th. You can sign up for these 45-minute sessions that run from 9AM to 6PM MDT and are available every day of the week – including weekends!

Considering Course Design for Affective Learning

Bloom’s taxonomy provides a common language for designing instruction. Although Bloom’s cognitive hierarchy is typically used for designing instruction to help students move up the hierarchy in knowledge, student learning can take place in any or even all of Bloom’s three main domains of learning. Course designers can use Bloom’s taxonomy to create learning goals that will increase learners’ knowledge in the cognitive domain, develop skills in the psychomotor domain, or encourage students to move up the hierarchy in the affective domain from having passive feelings to perhaps more involved feelings.
