A Comprehensive Review of 2023

A Message from Our Executive Director – LEC’s Year in Review – 2023

As 2023 draws to a close, the Learning and Educational Center (LEC) team at NSU takes a moment to reflect on the extraordinary journey we have embarked upon together over the past months. This year has been especially noteworthy as we celebrated many achievements and successes given some of the initiatives like the Educator’s Competency Framework, the inspiring Destination Excellence: A Journey to Engaged Teaching and Learning Conference, the meaningful Thank a Professor initiative, our engaging AI Fireside Chats, and many other remarkable initiatives noted throughout this year’s “Year in Review 2023” edition of “This Week in the LEC”.

With heartfelt appreciation and deep gratitude, I extend my thanks to our esteemed faculty as well as the many guest lecturers for their invaluable contributions and unwavering support of the LEC. The strategic guidance provided by the LEC Advisory Council, combined with the relentless dedication of our faculty, has been instrumental in elevating NSU to new heights of excellence and preeminence.

Thank you for being an integral part of this transformative journey!

Thank you,

Diane M. Lippe Ed.S | Executive Director

LEC Initiatives in 2023

This year, we hosted the third annual Teaching and Learning Conference, Destination Excellence: A Journey to Engaged Teaching and Learning, hosted on Zoom Events this year. As always, thank you to our presenters and participants! If you missed out, the complete archive of the 2023 T&L Conference session recordings are available!

The LEC’s popular Thank-A-Professor program was in full swing yet again, receiving over 2000 responses, and prompting a Secrets of Success series that unpacked teaching techniques, tips and tricks from faculty thank you message recipients.

Additionally, we began offering consultations with faculty to improve their course design and course materials via DesignLink which has been well received by faculty and created opportunities for us to work with faculty across the University.

LEC Workshops & Presentations in 2023

We’ve continued to host workshops that are targeted to enhance knowledge and skills, and 2023 was no different. With Generative AI on everyone’s mind, we hosted several workshops on the topic, such as ChatGPT, Caktus, and other AI Essay Generators: How Should We Respond? and Ethical, Legal, Academic, and Practical Considerations for ChatGPT, Dall-E and Similar Generative AI for Today’s and Tomorrow’s Classroom.

During the summer, we hosted the Summer Sizzler series, which introduced the LEC’s Educator Competency Framework, an insightful conversation about Talking to your students about Generative AI, and a two-part series on Engaging Today’s Learners (Part 1, Part 2).

We have maintained our regular workshop series for Turnitin, PollEverywhere, SharkMedia, and Flip. We’ve also added workshops about leveraging Rubrics in Canvas, as well as new tools such as Annoto and Interactive Video Branching in Kaltura.
