OIIT Special Announcement – SharkMedia / Kaltura Video Changes – New Player – Modified features

NSU’s Office of Innovation and Information Technology (OIIT) is updating SharkMedia/Kaltura video player to version 7, effective December 16, 2024. The new player offers a modern look, faster loading, improved chapter identification, better In Video Quiz Tool interface, sidebar transcripts, a slim player for audio files, and easy attachment downloads. Some embedded videos may not work properly. If you encounter issues, contact the LMS Team via the Service Now Portal for assistance.

Workshop: Lucid for Education: Exploring Visual Collaboration within Canvas

In this interactive workshop, educators will explore how to leverage Lucid’s suite of tools—including Lucidchart and Lucidspark—within the Canvas Learning Management System to create dynamic visual content and collaborative learning activities. Participants will learn how to create and embed diagrams, flowcharts, and brainstorming boards to enhance instructional materials, facilitate student engagement, and support group projects. Attendees will receive step-by-step guidance on setting up Lucid in Canvas, using visual content to illustrate complex concepts, and incorporating interactive boards for real-time collaboration.

Workshop: Exploring Turnitin in Canvas

If you have writing assignments in your course, you already know that plagiarism can be a problem. In this workshop, we present the tool, Turnitin, which helps identify instances of potential plagiarism. During the workshop, you will learn about the various ways in which Turnitin can be used in your Canvas course so that you can begin screening writing assignments for possible plagiarism and grammatical errors.

Initiatives – Year in Review 2024

This year, the LEC hosted its third annual Teaching and Learning Conference, “Raising the Bar: Educating the Modern Learner,” with hundreds of NSU Educators attending. Our popular Thank-A-Professor program was a hit, receiving over 2,000 thank you messages. Additionally, our DesignLink program continued to thrive, connecting Instructional Designers with faculty to enhance course design and materials across the University.
