Teaching Toolbox Series – Add New Tools to Your Toolbox
This summer we offered a series of “How to” professional development sessions designed specifically for educators who want to enhance their teaching with practical, effective strategies with our Teaching Toolbox Series. We equipped faculty with a toolbox of ideas, techniques, and applications that can be directly integrated into their practice.
Each session in the series spotlighted a specific aspect of teaching and learning ranging from technology tools to pedagogical approaches. Transform Your Students Video Watching Experience with Annoto
If you want to increase student engagement and personalize feedback within your Shark Media videos, the Annoto widget workshop was created just for you. The Annoto widget is a tool that integrates with Shark Media and can be used in Canvas enabling you to add interactive elements to your videos. You can use it to create questions, quizzes, surveys, polls, and discussions that appear on the video timeline. You and your students can also use it to annotate your videos with highlights, notes, links, and images. These features can help you enhance your instructional design, foster student collaboration, and provide timely and personalized feedback.
Exploring Turnitin in Canvas / Turnitin, Plagiarism, and AI Writing Detection in Canvas
If you have writing assignments in your course, you already know that plagiarism can be a problem. In this workshop, we present the tool, Turnitin, which helps identify instances of potential plagiarism. During the workshop, you will learn about the various ways in which Turnitin can be used in your Canvas course so that you can begin screening writing assignments for possible plagiarism and grammatical errors.

Getting Started with SharkMedia
Videos are often the most highly engaging media in a course. Videos can be used to introduce new course content, reinforce concepts already learned, share demonstrations, simulations, and much more. You may know that NSU has a media server called Shark Media which is our branded version of Kaltura. During this workshop, we will review the many capabilities of the Shark Media platform. We will show you where you can find every function on the platform, from uploading videos, all the way to creating chapter markers and playlists for your students.

In this workshop, we’ll explore and demonstrate new Zoom Workplace features in areas including Host Tools, Whiteboard, Surveys, Captions, Zoom View Features, Reactions, Share and Focus Mode. Through practical examples and demonstrations, you’ll learn how to make the most of using these tools to create a more interactive, accessible, and effective virtual Zoom Session.
How to Build a Branching Scenario in SharkMedia
Lights, Camera, Action! Would you like to create an interactive video? SharkMedia has been enhanced with an exciting feature from Kaltura called Interactive Video Paths. Interactive Videos enable you to create a more personalized, “choose your own adventure” learning experience by adding choice-based learning paths to your videos. Interactive videos are well known for their ability to increase viewer’s participation, reduce cognitive overload, maximize retention, and provide real-world learning experiences. This workshop will explore pedagogical tips and technology tools for assembling an engaging interactive video path through a step-by-step process that will help you to make your own interactive video learning experience for students.

During this fast-paced workshop, we will share unique features about the tools that you use every day but may not know everything about. We will demonstrate and discuss use cases for the following Zoom features and tools including:
- Immersive View – Create engaging virtual space for your classroom
- Team Chats – Create Chats that can be used for collaborating and file sharing
- Whiteboard – Transform Sessions interactivity with collaborative Whiteboards
- Continuous Meeting Chat – Keep conversation going before during and after meeting
- Avatars– Add a personal touch to your virtual iterations with custom avatars
- Zoom Apps – Integrate third-party apps such as music and timer to your zoom sessions to be engaging and productive
Lucid for Education: Exploring Visual Collaboration within Canvas
In this interactive workshop, educators will explore how to leverage Lucid’s suite of tools—including Lucidchart and Lucidspark—within the Canvas Learning Management System to create dynamic visual content and collaborative learning activities. Participants will learn how to create and embed diagrams, flowcharts, and brainstorming boards to enhance instructional materials, facilitate student engagement, and support group projects.
