Once linked, you’ll be able to embed videos seamlessly within Canvas. Below is a video tutorial followed by the written procedure.

How-to Guide: Embedding LinkedIn Learning Videos in Canvas Assignments (External Tool)

Step 1: Create or Edit Your Assignment

  • Log into Canvas, open your course, and navigate to Assignments.
  • Click + Assignment to create a new one or select an existing assignment to edit.

Step 2: Set Submission Type to External Tool

  • Scroll down to the Submission Type section.
  • Select External Tool from the dropdown menu.
  • Click Find to browse available tools.

Step 3: Select LinkedIn Learning

  • From the list of available external tools, select LinkedIn Learning.
  • A search window will appear. Search for and select your desired video.

You’ll be prompted to search and select your video by searching for the course you want in LinkedIn learning and clicking ADD. In the filter area, you can filter by various types. Once you add your choices, click the confirm button. Then click Select in the Canvas course.

Step 4: Finalize Your Assignment

  • Complete assignment details (points, due dates, etc.). 
  • Click Save and Publish.

Your LinkedIn Learning video is now embedded as an external tool, and students can easily access the content directly within their assignment submission area. A grade will be passed back to your gradebook.

Alternate Method: Embedding Videos Using the Rich Content Editor (Canvas Assignments)

You can also embed videos directly within the assignment instructions:

  • In the Rich Content Editor, click the Apps icon.
  • Select LinkedIn Learning, search, choose a video, click Add and Confirm, and then select.
  • Complete assignment settings, then click Save and Publish.

  • Click Pages and select + Page or edit an existing page.
