Did You Know? Quick Tips On Classroom Technology

This workshop is designed to show you different classroom technologies that can assist you in enhancing your online, blended, or face-to-face classroom experience. The instructor will take you step-by-step through each topic by telling you what it is, why you would use it, and demonstrate how to use it before you try it. During this fast-paced workshop, we will share unique features about the tools that you use everyday but may not know everything about. This session will cover a variety of Canvas Features including setting Module Requirements, Assignment Groups, and Canvas Commons.

UN SDG Learning Opportunity for Students: How Faculty Can Support This Initiative

This month, the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences (HCAS) is partnering with The Foundation of Environmental Stewardship (FES) to offer the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Launch on the NSU campus. Endorsed by all 193 of the UN’s Member States, the SDGs represent the international framework for cooperation on humanity’s most pressing challenges. The launch will establish a program to educate, empower, and mobilize youth to become activists for sustainable development in their community. Canvas Corner: Panda Pros – Instructure’s Free Back-to-School Coaching Sessions

Instructure Canvas, our Learning Management System, is offering free, one-on-one, online coaching sessions on any topic related to Canvas that you may want guidance on. The program, called Panda Pros, started last year and because of the great response and feedback, they have brought it back. The program is running right now until September 18th. You can sign up for these 45-minute sessions that run from 9AM to 6PM MDT and are available every day of the week – including weekends!

Connect Engage Inspire – Teaching and Learning Virtual Conference – Call For Proposals

Book Club Survey

The Faculty Book Club is a group of faculty and faculty support professionals who gather weekly to discuss a book that the group has selected. The first round of meetings occurred in the summer of 2022. The plan is to hold meetings in the fall, winter, and summer semesters.

Considering Course Design for Affective Learning

Bloom’s taxonomy provides a common language for designing instruction. Although Bloom’s cognitive hierarchy is typically used for designing instruction to help students move up the hierarchy in knowledge, student learning can take place in any or even all of Bloom’s three main domains of learning. Course designers can use Bloom’s taxonomy to create learning goals that will increase learners’ knowledge in the cognitive domain, develop skills in the psychomotor domain, or encourage students to move up the hierarchy in the affective domain from having passive feelings to perhaps more involved feelings.

Plagiarism and Using TurnItin with Canvas

If you have writing assignments in your course, then you already know that plagiarism can be a problem. This workshop will present the tool, Turnitin, which helps identify instances of potential plagiarism. During the workshop, you will learn about the various ways in which Turnitin can be used in your Canvas course so that you can begin screening writing assignments for plagiarism, as well as grammatical errors.

Using Flip to Engage Your Students

Flip (formerly Flipgrid) is an easy-to-use tool to foster strong connections within a course. This tool is offered to educators for free and can be integrated into your Canvas Course to allow students and you the opportunity to record their responses to topics in fun and innovative ways. The social experience of letting students use creativity in composing their video allows them to engage with a topic that stimulates thought provoking responses from students and can also be entertaining. With this tool, you see the student’s emotions during their responses, which can generate a meaningful, more connected experience to any topic you ask them to share their opinions about.
