Introducing the Faculty Studio

Faculty Studio

We are so proud to present you with the new LEC Faculty Studio! This new space allows faculty the opportunity to create and edit a variety of engaging content types for their courses. Here, you can film videos and record audio for course content including welcome videos, course tours, course orientations, and much more. Our new 66” lightboard will allow you to craft engaging content and illustrate concepts while maintaining a connection with your audience. You can do this all with our professional-grade video, audio, and lighting equipment. Pair that equipment with the available Green Screen backdrop and you can put yourself in any location that you desire.

The LEC Introduces the Thank-a-Professor Program

Mostly decorative Thank A Professors for all of their hard work.

The mission of the Learning and Educational Center (LEC) is in collaboration with other NSU colleges and centers to offer programs, resources, and services to encourage, enhance, foster, and reward the scholarship of teaching and learning at Nova Southeastern University. The LEC is committed to promoting, supporting, and celebrating quality and excellence in teaching by building a sense of community and a culture of connectivity. In fulfilling this mission, the LEC has created a program to recognize faculty members who create impactful and meaningful experiences in the classroom while challenging students and being positive role models. Thank-a-Professor was inspired by an idea brought to us by Dr. Emily Schmitt from the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences Through this program, we will recognize instructors for their efforts by publicly sharing student thank-you notes. We have been pleasantly overwhelmed by the number of responses from your students and we look forward to sharing them with you.

MAKO Commons – A Virtual Community of Practice

The MAKO Commons is NSU’s faculty virtual community of practice (vCoP). We are using an agile approach to develop this vCoP and hope that our members will help us build a community that is relevant, meaningful, and inclusive. Our goal is to foster and sustain a community of NSU faculty that advances the learning of all members. Our mission is to connect faculty across NSU so that we can share ideas, information, and resources related to research and practice in teaching and learning. We strive to engage in collaborative learning within an environment of shared authority, trust, and mutual respect. We hope through the MAKO Commons to Make All Knowledge Open so that we can learn from each other and strengthen our institutional capacity for effective teaching and learning. LEC Advisory Council

In September, we held our first LEC Advisory Council meeting. Comprised of faculty and staff representing NSU’s Colleges, Offices, and the University School, the Council’s focus this year was on identifying opportunities for advancing LEC’s mission and its strategic priorities. We are set to kick off 2022 with a strong focus on key initiatives.
