Date & Time:

March 27, 2025 – 12:35 pm – 1:30 pm

Presenter:

Rita Shea-Van Fossen, PhD, Professor of Management, H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship

Description:

Law, medicine, business, and other social science disciplines regularly use case studies to help bridge the theory-practice gap with students. Transforming these teaching tools into publishable scholarly articles offers a valuable opportunity to not only share insights with the broader academic community but also expand one’s research portfolio. This session will guide participants through the process of identifying the scholarly potential of their teaching cases and considerations in transforming your teaching case into an academic publication. This session will discuss some of the myths and facts about case study research, case study design considerations, and aligning submissions with publication standards. Whether you’re new to publishing or seeking to expand your portfolio, this session will provide actionable steps to take your classroom tools to print.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify appropriate cases to develop into publishable teaching and research cases and publishing requirements for each type of case.
  2. Develop appropriate research questions and design components to guide a case study research project.
  3. Apply strategies to enhance the quality of case study manuscripts and assure alignment with journal submission guidelines.
