Facilitators: Lia Jiannine, PhD, CSCS, Associate Professor, Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Vanessa D’Amario, PhD, Assistant Professor, H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship
Date: Wednesday, September 3, 2025
Time: 12:05pm -1:00pm
Description: This 1-hour faculty development workshop offers a clear and practical introduction to the fundamentals of quantitative research. Designed for educators and clinicians to build their research skills, this session explores common research designs, key concepts, and the structure of effective quantitative research questions. Participants will engage in guided, hands-on activities using sample datasets, simple data visualizations, and generative AI tools to support basic data collection and analysis. Emphasis will be placed on selecting appropriate methods, interpreting data trends, and addressing challenges common to applied research. By the end of the session, participants will have foundational skills to begin integrating quantitative methods into scholarly or practice-based projects, with exposure to how generative AI tools can streamline early-stage research tasks.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
1. Differentiate between major types of quantitative research designs used in clinical and educational contexts.
2. Explain core quantitative research concepts, including variables, datasets, and data visualization.
3. Apply generative-AI tools to support basic data collection and introductory data analysis tasks.
4. Select and interpret a simple dataset to answer a practice- or inquiry-based research question.
5. Identify common challenges in conducting quantitative research and propose strategies to address them.
