Don’t Flip Out! Flip’s Departure from Canvas isn’t the End of Video-based Discussions

Announcement 

In early June, Flip (formerly Flipgrid) announced that it is discontinuing the use of Flip as an independent application, and it will be available in Microsoft Teams only. (A New Chapter for Flip – FAQ – Flip Help Center).

What Does This Mean if I use Flip in my course? 

What this means is that if you currently use Flip, either through Canvas or from Flip.com, you will need to transition to some other method to use video discussions.  After July 1, 2024, you will no longer be able to use the Canvas integration and if you want to download old videos from Flip you have until September 30, 2024 to do so. 

Don’t Flip Out! 

This doesn’t mean you can’t use Video-based Discussions to stimulate student engagement. 

One alternative to Flip that is immediately available to you in your course is the use of the video recording tool in Canvas. 

All you have to do is set up a discussion activity in Canvas and require students to reply with the installed video option. An explainer video is included below:
