Description:

Mentoring is a practice that enhances students’ academic and professional development. However, mentoring does not always come naturally. In this workshop, we will discuss some foundational mentoring terms and definitions, roles and competencies, benefits, and personal mentoring motivations and expectations. Whether you are just beginning to mentor or looking to deepen your mentoring practice, this workshop will provide a foundation of knowledge and skills you can use to enhance your mentoring relationships.

Learning Objectives 

Upon completion of this workshop, learners will be able to:

  • Discuss the definitions and structures of mentoring
  • Identify eight mentoring roles
  • Discuss six mentoring competency categories
  • Discover the benefits of mentoring for the mentor and the mentee
  • Examine personal mentorship motivations and expectations
