New SharkMedia Transcript Widget that displays on Captioned Videos.  

Some of our recent LEC Newsletter articles shared the importance of captioning video content for advancing the accessibility of your course content. With the goal of improving course content accessibility in mind, the Office of Innovation and Information Technology recently upgraded our captioning service available within SharkMedia. The new service replaces Cielo 24 with Kaltura Captions Reach V2.  

Kaltura REACH V2 provides captions and enrichment services that support captioning, transcription, translation, audio description, chaptering, in-video and cross-library search and discovery, deep-linking capabilities, and metadata and keyword extraction. 

The upgrade to Kaltura’s Reach V2 provides the following enhancements: 

  • Improved machine captioning 
  • Fidelity levels are much improved, typically over 90% accurate (vs 70-80% before) 
  • Includes the Transcript Widget to view, edit, and download a transcript. 
  • Includes Alignment, so if an exact transcript already exists, it can be uploaded to the video and aligned with the video timestamps. 
  • Includes machine captioning of the source language to the same language – you have Spanish, Portuguese and French selected, there are 22 languages available. (e.g., If the source language of the video is Spanish, it can be machine captioned in Spanish) 

Please Note: 

Reach V2 will cover all future uploaded videos where machine captioning is requested.  Your current Cielo24 captions will remain on old videos unless machine captioning is requested again.
